Clean Coal
Clean coal technologies burn coal more efficiently with reduced emissions of sulfur and nitrogen oxide (contributors to acid rain), while providing distinct advantages over conventional coal utilization systems. Although only required to provide half of the funding, private industry has, thus far, accounted for two-thirds of the $5.2 billion spent on the program.
